Troubleshooting Protools 6.1 & Macintosh OS X
Problem:
LCD scribble strip display is not updated or text is garbled.

System Configuration: MotorMix, Dashboard, or any MIDI control surface with electronic scribble strip displays. ProTools 6.1 running under OSX on Macintosh.

Analysis: The problem is related to the MIDI interface or driver not handling MIDI Sysex messages properly under OSX and the Apple MIDI System (AMS). All controllers with electronic scribble strips rely on MIDI Sysex messages from the computer to update the channel labels on the control surface.

Resolution: Go to the manufacturer’s web site for your MIDI interface. Check the site for a new driver (for your MIDI interface model) that has been specifically updated for OSX. Download and install the latest driver following the manufacturer’s instructions.

We have tested the following interfaces with OSX and found that they work properly with the latest drivers:
  • MOTU Midi Time Piece AV
  • M-Audio Midisport 2x2
  • EMagic AMT 8
  • Digidesign Digi002Rack
There are many more that work properly based on reports from the field. If you have a system running sucessfully with MotorMix AND OSX, please send us a note at: techsupport@cmlabs.net and we will update our list.
